If you can hold a fork, you can go to York?

This is really weird, I made a post earlier about this topic and thought it went through but apparently it didn't!

I've been a bit worried about York's reputation lately. Some people say it's based in one of the worse areas of Toronto, that it's a commuters chool, its academics cannot compare to that of the UofT, etc.

This comment  I've read in particular worries me:

My high school is 15 mins away from York. Therefore, I know hundreds of students who are at York or went to York. I have rarely heard anything positive about York, in general. Putting aside their academic reputation, because it's a commuter school, the overall campus atmosphere is not very good - whether you live on campus or commute.

York is not a university that you would want to live at...it's more like a university that you "just go to" (like high school) and have your own life once you get home.

Very different atmosphere in comparison to Queen's or Western.

Also I plan on going to graduate school or if I am not happy in Toronto after a year I would want to transfer out. I don't want York's reputation to hinder my chances of transferring to another school. I'd like to go to a place where professors are accessible and will be willing to give good reference letters. UofT seems to have a livelier student atmosphere seeing as it has more students but it's comparatively harder to get a great GPA there compared to the UofT, is that right?

So... are my worries unfounded?
